What is the Mothersí Union?

When we say Mothers Union, what do you think of? A group of mothers chatting! Old women knitting, making tea and cake! Yes that is us and more!!

This is us.. Hands, hands around the world, hands joined in friendship, hands to lift, support, carry and pray, hands that dig, carry water, cook and teach, hands that comfort the old, the young, the sick the bereaved, hands that are always ready when needed.

You can find information about us on the Mothersí union table. You are welcome to read our magazine, Families First. Just the title tells you something about us. Families are important to us, our family, your family and those we donít know who need our help.

What are we?

Mothers' Union is an international Christian membership charity that aims to demonstrate the Christian faith in action through the transformation of communities worldwide. Women and men work together, not just mothers but those who care and support like mothers do.

We are working with people of all faiths and none in 83 countries to promote stable marriage, family life and the protection of children through praying, enabling and campaigning. We support families and communities both in the UK and around the world. Since 1876, when Mary Sumner first brought together parents in her own parish to build their confidence in bringing up their children in the Christian faith, Mothersí Union has grown to over 4 million members worldwide. Our members work around the world bringing hope and practical support to millions of people every year through our parenting, literacy and community development programmes and as part of the volunteer base of local churches.

You are probably not aware of all that goes on here in your own parish, with the ladies and gents, your friends sitting here. We collect toiletries to make bags for people in hospital, hostels and refuges, we hand painted bags last year, we collect art and craft materials and suitcases for the women at Yarlswood the detention centre in Bedford. We support the hostels and refuges. We fundraise to support our overseas workers and any emergency appeals that come up. We held a coffee morning last week in aid of the Sudan Emergency Famine Fund. We raised £100 and are open for donations still. Anyone is welcome to attend our meetings, listen to visiting speakers and join our fundraising events.

Mothers Union

We are not a boring fuddy duddy lot, we are actually vibrant and alive. If you came to a meeting and heard our members talking and laughing together as friends you might not recognise them. This is because we Support, Inspire and Encourage each other, we are a circle of friends working together with a common goal to Support, Inspire and Encourage others. If you would like to join our ever growing group, please speak to us we would love to talk to you. Thanks be to God.
